Trich Signs

I was on the crowded bus today heading crosstown and self conscious about being so close to others when my eyebrows are such a mess and when I looked up there was a sign advertising trich.org. The sign said something to the effect of "I pull out my hair" and "as do millions of others". I have to admit that I was so happy to see the sign but did have a minute of "are people now looking at me?" It's nice to see that an effort is being made to make this disease a bit more public so maybe we no longer have to hide under an unnecessary cloud of shame fearing that people will view us, and our trich, as so unusual and strange. I hope to see many more signs and information about trich!

  1. Those posters you saw were probably sponsored by TLC, the Trichotillomania Learning Center (www.trich.org). They a wonderful organization founded by the amazing Christina Pearson; TLC is the driving force behind trich research. I stumbled across your blog and have not read every entry so maybe you already know about TLC, but if not you should really get in touch with them. Every April or May they sponsor a conference for people with trich, and it's the most welcoming, nurturing, inspiring environment. You can meet other people with trich, learn new methods to avoid pulling, or attend sessions with researchers and learn more about the causes and most up-to-date treatments. My daughter has trich and we attend the conference each year now. This year it was in Newark, NJ. You are not alone, and your circle of support will grow if you are able to attend a conference. It has made a real difference in our lives. Please check out their website. Good luck to you.
